Press and industry news about wireless digital photo frames and digital signage displays.

1 MILLION Digital Picture Frames

1-million-pennies.jpgI came across an old press release by PanDigital the other day, bragging about their 1 millioninth digital picture frame shipped.  I congratulate PanDigital, and any company that can ship a million units of anything. However,  it got me thinking about that huge number vis-a-vis PhotoVu and our digital picture frames that we manufacture right here in the good 'ole USA.

So what's the connection you ask? Well, I can tell you, with most certainty, that PhotoVu will never ship 1 million frames in its entire lifespan. That's because when you buy a PhotoVu wireless digital picture frame you are not buying some commodity mass produced product in China. Instead, you are buying a personalized and custom manufactured product that is subassembled in small quantities and final assembled one at a time, right here in the USA.

A lot of customers come to us because they are looking for a big picture frame they can hang on the wall. However, there is so much more than just being the biggest. We manufacture the best digital picture frame in the world, barr none.

So when you purchase a PhotoVu and ultimately hang it on your wall, you should have pride in knowing that you not only have a great centerpiece in your home to enjoy all of your precious photo memories for years to come, but you will also have a truly one-of-kind product that was made just for you.

Just like your photos are personal, so is your PhotoVu.

High-end digital frames get noticed

grand-gadgets-mar2009.gifThere is nothing better than a happy customer...especially when they write really nice articles about you! Here are a few quotes from Tim's recent GRAND Magazine Gadgets article:

"Over the last few years, I have bought several brands of digital frames and while many perform the basic display functions adequately, I find they can become very flakey once the manufacturers start to add features like wireless connectivity. Also, in most cases they are manufactured with cheap plastic and are unattractive. My experience to date is that the cliché you get what you pay for is very true in the world of digital photo frames."

"I can’t emphasize enough how good these displays look. I have one in my office and it never fails to get attention from visitors. But the real selling point for me is that it works! I know that sounds overly simplistic, but I have bought too many low-end frames that simply did not work as advertised or crashed whenever I tried to connect them to my network. With PhotoVu you get a fantastic looking product that works as promised."

Wireless digital frames support over 150,000 photos!

150000-photos.jpgRecently, we announced support for over 150,000 photos. Ok, maybe you don't have 150,000 photos...today. But, I do have 40,000+ at the time of this writing. Working with large photo archives is important since these collections are growing at an ever expanding rate. And, we spend a lot of time making sure our products work with these archives since its about using ALL your photos.

The reasons? For one, I get my whole collection on the wall as I go about living my life, with very little fuss. Secondly, it is very fast to load the list so I can go in and add photos to my PC, seeing the results almost immediately, no matter how big that list is. Third, since we have no client application running on the PC, it means a simpler approach -- I don't have to keep two programs up to date, the PC and the PhotoVu, and since there is no client running on the PC, displaying photos on the PhotoVu does not bog down the CPU on the computer.

As one example, the Apple TV box I have in my home can stream photos from my PC to my TV. Ok, great. However, for my 40k photo collection, it took some 15 minutes to load the photo list before the photos began playing. Not to mention, when I first added the photos it bogged down my computer for about 15 minutes. Again, we have no client on the PC, so it doesn't bog down the computer that is serving the photos. That part really sucked as it made my PC totally unusable. The same list on my PhotoVu takes about a minute to load and it will automagically re-load the list when it reaches the end of it, so it can include new photos that have been added to my photo collection since the last list load. This feature allows the PhotoVu to be a set and forget device. As I'm taking pictures, say over the weekend, I come back and dump them in my photo directory and they just become part of my life, on the wall, with no further interaction.

Living a lifetime of memories...each and every day!
