Updating Your Software

The Advanced Settings, Software menu allows you to update the PhotoVu's internal software.

Please note, this option is activated only when you purchase the PhotoVu Annual Software Plan.  The Annual Software Plan allows you to stay current with all PhotoVu software releases.  This can be purchased at any time on the PhotoVu web site.  Please click on Purchase, fill out the Contact section then go to Accessories.

It is highly recommended that you "Run in Test Mode" first to see if there are software updates, feature changes, or improvements available.  This will also verify the PhotoVu's connection to the Internet.

If "Run in Test Mode" fails, please check your Advanced Settings, Networking settings.  Your network settings must have a valid Default Gateway and DNS entries.  The Default Gateway should be an internal (private) IP address and both DNS entries should be external IP addresses recognized by the Internet.  Please see the Wikipedia entry for more details on private IP addresses.  In some cases, ISPs block port 22 (SSH) which is needed for your software update.  You will need to contact your ISP to see if this is the case.

Software updates can be quite large (30+mb) so you need to have a consistent and reliable Internet connection.  If not, we recommend that you connect your PhotoVu to another network that is more predictable.  If you experience errors after a software update, see the Errors After a Software Update below.

Please note the following:

Click Start Software Update to continue.  You will see feedback as to the progress of the software update.  Once the PhotoVu has restarted, use the PhotoVu Web Administration program to access the PhotoVu again.
