Why does the PhotoVu show partial images when playing the RSS Feed folders?
How should I configure the power management or energy saving features on the
computer that stores my digital photos?
Since the PhotoVu needs continuous access to the computer that stores your
digital photos, PhotoVu recommends that all power saving features be disabled
with the exception of the feature that controls the computer monitor.
Power features such as stand-by, hibernation, hard drive power down/off, etc.
need to be turned off. The power feature to turn off your computer monitor
should be enabled.
For some reason, if power management features are used, the Photo Show will stop on the last photo it retrieved over the network from your computer. In many situations, you might see a partial photo since the computer stopped communicating with the PhotoVu as it went into a power save mode. Once your computer comes back out of power saving mode, the Photo Show should resume automatically. If not, try stopping and restarting the Photo Show.
How often do you release software updates for the PhotoVu?
Many factors determine the frequency of when we update the software. At
PhotoVu, software development is an ongoing process. Our philosophy is to
get new features, enhancements, and fixes out to our user base as soon as
possible. This typically translates into many incremental releases in comparison
to a few major and minor releases over the course of the calendar year. We notify
our user base before posting a major software release.
Our goal is to deliver the highest quality software with minimal impact to our user base.
How do I tell when I last updated my software? If there is a newer version,
how to I tell what features have been added or updated?
Under the Status menu, look for the Software Version and Last Software Update. This
gives you the version and date and time of when you completed your last software
update. If you would like to see if there is a newer version of software,
click on Advanced Settings, Software. Run the software update with the
"Run in Test Mode " box checked. Compare the version and date of the message with your
Last Software Update. If the message date is more current than the Last
Software Update date, you should update your software as soon as possible.
You can also check the software version number. PhotoVu recommends that you always run the most current version of the PhotoVu's
software.
When I mount the PhotoVu in a portrait orientation, what do I need to do with my digital photos?
If you install the PhotoVu in a portrait orientation (wide viewing angle models), you will know ahead of time that most or all of the photos being displayed will be portraits. The key is to always manage your photos on the computer so they are displayed correctly on the display. Meaning, you don't have to turn your head to see any of the photos.
Digital photos taken in landscape are always displayed correctly without manual rotation. When the PhotoVu is mounted in portrait mode, you will see letter boxing on the top and bottom of the photo. Digital photos that are taken in portrait need to be manually rotated -90 or +90 degrees to be displayed properly. The rotation will depend upon how you held your camera at the time the shot was taken. The manual rotation should be done on your computer as you manage your photos.
See the Photo Show, Options menu and PhotoVu AutoRotate feature. If you have your PhotoVu physically mounted in portrait mode, just use the AutoRotate "-90" option and all of your photos will be displayed properly. The portrait photo will always fill the PhotoVu's display if you have SmartResize turned on.
In summary, to use the PhotoVu in portrait mode:
How do I clean the screen of the PhotoVu?
This can be a bit tricky since it is very easy to create a much larger smear by trying to clean an existing one. Use cleaners that are recommended for LCD computer monitors. If you use a spray, you must spray a cloth then wipe the monitor. Be VERY careful around the edge of the monitor along the mat. It is a cotton core that will expand if it gets wet.
Try cleaning a very small area first to see what happens to the smear. Quick, single wipes work the best. If you start to make circular motions, your smear will get worse. If you have an lcd computer monitor, you can try cleaning that first to see how your cleaner is going to react on the PhotoVu.
Unfortunately, there isn’t one solution since each smear is made up of different things. At PhotoVu, we have a variety of LCD monitor cleaners and each works at different times on different smears.
I get an error message when trying to add a Photo Directory, what could be the problem?
First, you must turn off all firewalls, spyware, anti-virus or other programs that monitor your internal network. In most cases, these programs are located on your computer. Many of these network monitoring or protection programs will automatically turn back on in minutes after you disable them. Please ensure these programs are completely off. Once you have the PhotoVu configured correctly, please consult the user manuals for these products to setup a rule or permission to allow the PhotoVu to communicate with your computer.
How do I determine if a photo or image is too large for the PhotoVu to display?
When the PhotoVu cannot display a photo or image, you will see a logging entry in the Advanced Settings, Logs, Photo Show Log. If you need to calculate the size of the image, multiple the image width times the height. This will give you the effective camera mega-pixel size. Most PhotoVu models support up to 8.2 mega-pixel cameras. The newer, higher memory PhotoVu models will support up to 16.7 mega-pixel cameras.
Why does the PhotoVu show partial images when playing the RSS Feed folders?
Are you seeing partial images when you play your RSS Feed folders? Every ISP and Internet connection is different so reliability and uptime vary greatly. If you see partial images then the PhotoVu was only able to retrieve part of that image. If you get a number of them in a short period of time, it might be a good idea to reset your RSS Feed and start over.
