I get an error message when trying to add a Photo Directory, what could be the problem?

First, you must turn off all firewalls, spyware, anti-virus or other programs that monitor your internal network.   In most cases, these programs are located on your computer.  Many of these network monitoring or protection programs will automatically turn back on in minutes after you disable them.   Please ensure these programs are completely off.   Once you have the PhotoVu configured correctly, please consult the user manuals for these products to setup a rule or permission to allow the PhotoVu to communicate with your computer.

How do I determine if a photo or image is too large for the PhotoVu to display?

When the PhotoVu cannot display a photo or image, you will see a logging entry in the Advanced Settings, Logs, Photo Show Log.  If you need to calculate the size of the image, multiple the image width times the height.  This will give you the effective camera mega-pixel size.  Most PhotoVu models support up to 8.2 mega-pixel cameras.  The newer, higher memory PhotoVu models will support up to 16.7 mega-pixel cameras.

Why does the PhotoVu show partial images when playing the RSS Feed folders?

Are you seeing partial images when you play your RSS Feed folders?  Every ISP and Internet connection is different so reliability and uptime vary greatly.  If you see partial images then the PhotoVu was only able to retrieve part of that image.  If you get a number of them in a short period of time, it might be a good idea to reset your RSS Feed and start over.

How to I configure a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device with the PhotoVu?

Many Network Attached Storage devices are compatible with the PhotoVu.  Since there are 100's of models on the market today, PhotoVu only provides information on possible usage scenarios.

If you are running SMB on your NAS device, you need the equivalent Computer Name, Computer Share Name, Computer Username, and Computer Password.  Your NAS should have a device name that will correspond to the Computer Name.  This might be an IP address.  Many of the SMB devices are Linux-based and use Samba.  This will allow you to create shared folders on the NAS device.  The shared folder (Computer Share Name) will have a username (Computer Username) and password (Computer Password) associated with it.

If you are running NFS, there are many concepts that you first need to understand in order to "mount" your NAS device.  We recommend a Unix/Linux book or resource on this topic.  NFS is an advanced network feature that is included with the PhotoVu but is for customers with a Unix/Linux background.

How to I get WEP to work with the PhotoVu?

Many wireless access points (WAP) have up to four WEP keys that can be used with devices on your network.  It is important that you configure the PhotoVu with the first WEP key that is listing in the WEP key section of the WAP.  Otherwise, the PhotoVu will not be able to gain access to your network.
