Using Active Photo Directories

Now that you have added one or more Photo Directories, you should see a list of Active Photo Directories similar to the ones below:

By organizing digital photos in folders on your computer, you can have precise control over your content.  Storing your digital photos by date or event will give you the ability to show, for example, all holiday photos for the last three years, family functions by child, or even a single event like a wedding.

Any Photo Directory used by a Photo Software Management package will be controlled and used within the Photo Locations, Albums menu.  For example, the (--Used by Apple iPhoto6--) is an indicator that tells you this Active Photo Directory is controlled by Photo Albums.

The USB Port is a special type of Photo Directory that is controlled and used within a Photo Show, Photo Directory as Albums, or the RSS feeds feature.

Displaying Photos from a Photo Directory

Active Photo DIrectories can be used to display photos on the PhotoVu.  When you display photos using Photo Directories, the PhotoVu will search and build a play list based upon all images found.  Even if you have sub folders within your Photo Directory, the PhotoVu will recurse through all of these.  If you prefer, the recurse feature can be controlled in Photo Show, Options (#18) so you do not search all sub folders for photos.

You should see a similar section within your web page:

When you start the Photo Show, photos within the Active Photo Directories will be displayed on the PhotoVu per the exceptions below.

  1. Any Photo Directory used by a Photo Software Management package will be controlled and used by Photo Locations, Albums.  For example, the (--Used by Apple iPhoto6--) in the graphic at the top of the page is an indicator that tells you this Active Photo Directory is controlled by Photo Albums.  Therefore, this Photo Directory will not be included in the Photo Show when playing Active Photo Directories.

  2. To include the USB Storage Drive in the Photo Show, you must click the "Storage Drive in the USB Port" checkbox.

Now, click Start Photo Show and in a few moments, you photos will be displayed.

Making a Photo Directory Inactive

If you have an Active Photo Directory that you do not want to use, select the Active Photo Directory and click Make Inactive.  The Photo Directory will be deactivated and added to the inactive Photo Directory list.  If you get an error about making a Photo Directory inactive, try stopping the Photo Show first.

As an operational note, if a Photo Directory is part of the current Photo Show, the Photo Show will be stopped if it is make inactive.  This includes a Photo Directory configured as Photo Directory as Albums.
